The opportunity
Build and lead the software organization behind an AI-driven metals supplier for American aerospace and defense manufacturing. You set technical direction and hire the team while staying close to the code and the factory floor.
A fast-growing Series A company building automated, software-run factories that turn raw metal into production-ready material faster and more reliably than traditional suppliers. It serves aerospace and defense manufacturers from sites in Michigan and Los Angeles, runs on its own internal software, and is expanding into new materials and a second factory.
What you will do
- Set the technical strategy and engineering roadmap
- Recruit, develop and lead a high-performing team
- Establish durable architecture across customer, commercial and manufacturing systems
- Review critical designs and unblock hard problems yourself
- Turn company priorities into clear plans, owners and dates
- Raise the bar on reliability, security, testing, observability and documentation
- Work directly with sales, operations, finance and the factory floor
- Make build-versus-buy calls and manage technical risk
What you bring
- Roughly 5 to 10 years of engineering, including leading teams
- Shipped and operated business-critical software
- Applied AI or another frontier technology at scale at a company that succeeded
- Hands-on across architecture, execution and people
- Clear decisions with incomplete information and direct communication
- Comfort with both engineers and factory operators
- A network of engineers you can recruit from
- Willingness to work in person in Los Angeles
Nice to have
- Manufacturing, logistics, supply chain or industrial software
- Optimization, data products or production ML

Pay and benefits
- Salary range: $200,000 to $350,000 per year. This is the range the client expects to pay in good faith. The final amount depends on experience and other job-related factors.
