The opportunity

The first full-time engineer at a K-12 company that helps schools keep phones out of class and logs attendance in the same tap. You build agent-driven integrations with legacy school systems, harden the mobile app and architect the backend with the CTO.

A seed-stage New York company whose classroom tap-in system puts student phones into a school-chosen restricted mode and records attendance in one step, then writes that attendance back to the school's records system. It has grown to dozens of districts in under a year on a very small team.

What you will do

  • Build browser-agent and automation systems that write attendance back to legacy student information systems with no public APIs
  • Make district onboarding take days instead of weeks
  • Build and harden the Flutter app for iOS and Android, including network-level focus modes and single-app lockdown
  • Architect systems, infrastructure and data with the CTO on Firebase, Express on Cloud Run, Cloud Tasks and Next.js
  • Talk with principals, teachers and IT directors, and own whole product areas end to end

What you bring

  • Roughly 1 to 5 years shipping production software end to end
  • Strong backend architecture and system design, including messy multi-source data, race conditions and async work
  • A reliability mindset: uptime, monitoring and graceful failure
  • Fast learning of new frameworks
  • Clear thinking and communication on the spot
  • Comfort with very direct feedback
  • Willingness to work in person in New York, about six long days a week during busy school periods, with visits to schools

Nice to have

  • K-12 or student information system experience
  • iOS or Android system-level APIs
  • Browser automation or agent work
  • Hackathon wins or shipped personal projects

Pay and benefits

  • Salary range: $140,000 to $220,000 per year. This is the range the client expects to pay in good faith. The final amount depends on experience and other job-related factors.
  • Comprehensive benefits
